Candle Types
The most common candle types are molded, pillar, container candles, taper and gel candle.
Molded Candles
The molded candles are the candles in which the wax cools in a mold. The mold will give the shape to this candle. Molded candles are usually small. The mold can be any material that can hold wax and survive the temperature of the melted wax.
Pillar candles
Pillar candles are generally molded candles, but the tend to be in a class by themselves. Pillar candle is a free-standing candle, usually having a diameter of 7 cmc or more, and one or more wicks. When crafting pillar candles, special attention must be made to the wick size. If the wick is undersized, the candle may tunnel, and with an oversized wick, the sides melt and the candle will be a mess. Pillar candles may range from 7 cms high to over 30 cms high. Despite the name, pillars or column candles can be round, square, hexagonal, octagonal, or any other shape you can imagine. Although they stand on their own, they must be burned on a heat-resistant candle holder. In order to make pillar candles, a pillar mold is needed.
Container candles
Container candle is a candle that is poured when manufactured into a glass, metal or ceramic container specifically designed to hold the wax and withstand the heat of the burning candle. They can be quite small (smaller than a votive) or pretty large.
Taper
Taper is a slender candle. Taper is typically 15 to 50 cms high and sometimes called a dinner candle. Taper is designed to be held securely upright by a candle holder.
GEL CANDLE:
Gel candle is a transparent-type candle made primarily from gelled mineral oils or gelled synthetic hydrocarbons. “Soft” or quasi-rigid gels are poured into a container to maintain the candle’s shape. "Hard" gel candles have a consistency suitable for free-standing candles. Decorative wax items are frequently suspended within a gel candle to produce a special visual effect.
